Eyelid Surgery in Costa Mesa
Men and women who are fighting signs of facial aging will often begin by attacking the lines and wrinkles with non-surgical treatments such as Botox or facial fillers. But even when the lines are gone, sagging or puffiness of the eyelids can still be aging your entire appearance. If you feel your look is being hindered by aging around the eyelids, you may consider blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) with a Costa Mesa plastic surgeon at Pacific Coast Plastic Surgery.
What Causes Puffiness or Drooping of the Eyelids
As you become older, your eyelids can begin to droop or sag due to a breakdown in collagen and skin elasticity caused by the natural effects of gravity and sun damage. This may even lead to some problems with vision obstruction as a result of parts of the upper eyelid falling within your line of sight. Puffiness below the eyes can also occur due to excess deposits of fat that have accumulated over time.
Those who struggle with these issues may appear much older or more tired than they actually are.
There are also medical conditions that can cause the upper eyelids to droop downward as well. Ptosis and dermatochalasis are two congenital disorders that can be corrected with an upper blepharoplasty procedure. Conditions like these, or in cases of significant vision obstruction, can often be partially covered by your insurance.
How Eyelid Surgery Improves Sagging and Puffy Bags
There are several conditions that can be improved with upper and/or lower eyelid surgery. A problem with drooping or sagging can be corrected with upper eyelid surgery, whereas puffiness or discoloration beneath the eyes can be improved using lower eyelid surgery. During your consultation in Costa Mesa, we will listen to your goals and analyze the condition of your eyelids to determine which procedure you will need, or if you are a candidate for both.
Your procedure will be performed under general anesthesia. Your plastic surgeon will then make a tiny incision, using the natural folds of the eyelids to conceal future scarring. Excess skin, fat and tissue can then be removed to reduce sagging or puffiness around the eyes. Once your incisions are closed, we will place any needed bandages to help ensure proper healing.
Eyelid Surgery Recovery
Initially after your surgery, the area around your eyes may feel a bit tight and tender. This is nothing to worry about and should cease after about a day or two. We can provide you with a pain reliever if the discomfort or pain continues.
Stay home and rest for about 7-10 days before returning to work. You may experience some bruising and swelling, but these issues will continue to fade away over time. As you continue to heal, your eyelid surgery will provide you with a younger, rejuvenated appearance.
