Facial Rejuvenation Surgery

A taut, youthful facial appearance cannot last forever. Life brings many challenges we all face as we age. Gravity, sun damage, genetics and other internal and external factors are all working against our skin to cause sagging and drooping of the face. If you are unhappy with sagging that has taken place in your cheeks, jawline or neck, you may benefit from facelift surgery with Pacific Coast Plastic Surgery.

Getting Rid of Sagging Jowls

Unfortunately, there is no fountain of youth like in the movies. Aging is a normal part of being human and just about everyone will struggle with sagging skin at some point in their lives. This can cause you to feel self-conscious about your appearance and may have a negative impact on your levels of self-confidence. While there are several non-surgical procedures that can be used to prolong a youthful look of your face, once drooping or sagging begins to set in, the facelift is oftentimes the go-to procedure.

The reason that the facelift is so effective is because it gets rid of all the excess skin and tissue that is left drooping off the lower portion of your face and causing issues such as jowls. This is a problem that occurs once your skin begins to lose elasticity, and often is very difficult to fully correct without surgery. By trimming away this excess skin and repairing the underlying structure of your face, a facelift can help you to look younger with ongoing results.

How Will Your Facelift be Performed?

When you come in for your consultation with one of our Costa Mesa plastic surgeons, we will carefully analyze the condition of your face and come up with a proper treatment plan based on the goal look you want to achieve.

Your surgery will be performed under general anesthesia and will consist of incisions that begin around each one of your temples. The incisions will travel downward along the hairline, around the front of your ear, and back down to the base of your hair. From here, we can reshape the underlying tissue and muscle to restore a youthful shape and contour of your cheeks, chin and neck. Your skin is then carefully pulled back over tightly to achieve a natural, firm appearance. Any excess skin will be removed and your incisions will be sutured closed.

A facelift can also be performed along with other facial surgeries such as a brow lift, neck lift or eyelid surgery for increased benefits.

Facelift Recovery

Once your facelift surgery is complete, we will apply any necessary bandages to help your face heal. Surgical drains may be required at incision locations to help drain fluids and minimize swelling of the face. You will need to rest for 2-3 weeks before you are able to return to work and other social activities.

Bruising and swelling will fade over the course of about a month or two, but you may be able to conceal any surgical signs using makeup or other accessories. As your face continues to heal from surgery, you will notice that you look much younger than you did before your procedure. Patients are often pleasantly surprised by their youthful appearance when they first see their final results in the mirror. It is often said to be like looking into the past at a younger version of yourself.

The results of your facelift procedure are not permanent, but they can provide you with a younger look that lasts for up to a decade. Once you begin noticing your desired look fade away, you may return for a secondary facelift or additional surgeries to maintain a youthful look.
